Cocktail Connoisseur: Shane Williams Of Perthyn Low Alcohol Spirit Shares His Favourite Recipe
Four Welsh Rugby players: Shane Williams, James Hook, Lee Byrne, and Mike Phillips have come together to launch Perthyn, which takes its name from the Welsh meaning of ‘belonging’. And in that spirit, Perthyn is inspired by the memory of the grass beneath the feet, the sound of the crowd, the thrill of the game, and friendships formed along the way.
“We created Perthyn to find a sense of belonging and share that with other individuals who value authenticity, reciprocity and quality. Perthyn is a constant reminder of how you want to live, so you can try to embody that happiness and bring it with you every day.
Perthyn makes for a great low alcohol alternative summer serve, 10% ABV. It is so versatile and can be enjoyed a number of ways. One of my favourite serves is the 'Thyn Fizz - the elderflower and cucumber additions work really well with the botanicals in Perthyn and provide a really refreshing taste.
Perthyn is the brainchild of myself and three of my former Welsh Rugby teammates, James Hook, Lee Byrne and Mike Phillips. As sportsmen, we are health-conscious individuals but delighted to have created such a fantastic low-alcohol spirit that doesn’t compromise on taste. We are working with the Welsh Rugby Union to encourage sensible drinking at matches but this reaches out across other sports and not just rugby. We recently served Perthyn P&T’s at a charity golf day which went down a storm and definitely helped my short game around the green!” Shane Williams
